UPN'S CULTURAL EXPRESSION

Welcome to this blog

I invite you to take a look at this NEW VIDEO.

According to UNESCO, the term ''Cultural expressions" is related to those expressions that result from the creativity of individuals, groups, and societies, and that have cultural content. On the other hand, Cultural diversity refers to the manifold ways in which the cultures of groups and societies find expression. These expressions are passed on within and among groups and societies. Cultural diversity is made manifest not only through the varied ways in which the cultural heritage of humanity is expressed, augmented and transmitted through the variety of cultural expressions but also through diverse modes of artistic creation, production, dissemination, distribution, and enjoyment, whatever the means and technologies used (UNESCO, Glossary).

In this sense, Cultural expressions could be found among groups and societies whose members share similar experiences and beliefs. Thus, educational institutions such as universities have been cradles of cultural expressions. Bearing this in mind, Colombian Universities such as Universidad Pedagógica Nacional have been special places for culture. This university has had the goal of integrating teacher training through a coherent educational plan based on teaching excellence, quality, equity, membership and academic rigor of the training programs and processes in teaching, research, and extension. However, there is much more and beyond about it.

I invite you to take a look at the following video

Once you have finished the video, what do you consider is the main purpose of cultural expression at UPN?

Have you found more types of cultural manifestations? Do you participate in some way? How?

Comments

  1. You put it perfectly in your video: art makes us diverse. I would add: art makes us transcend, art makes us reveal our individual and collective selves. Yet, is art actually useless as Wilde once wrote it? Does art have any extrinsic value or its qualities rely only on its intrinsic features? Your video showed what I enjoy the most at UPN: those sudden shocks of an art that has been created from the very depths of souls that resist and continue to bear the injustices of life. Unfortunately, I can only be a spectator of all that, since I have zero talents to create lively forms of art of any sort whatsoever for my university. Yet, as a simple spectator, I still have the chance to participate as co-creator, as interpreter or deconstructor of the world someone else has imagined.

  2. I loved the music of the video. I personally consider that artis actually art when it is looking for changing, criticizing, creating something meaningful and the university has shown to have several spaces in which students have expressed. Of course it can't be denied that some spaces have been used with the aim of artistic purposes but at the end those places are not been well used. Thank you for sharing

  3. Just as I commented on one of our partner's blog, these cultural expressions are the ones that are worth to be shown outside the university as the presentation of our University.
Answering to your question, I've never participated on the creation of any of those projects, nevertheless, I'll be working on an artistic project that aimsd to create awarness among UPN students regarding fag-end management. I'd like you to be involved in this proposal since at the univeristy there are lots of smokers but most of them do not treat the fag-ends as the thing they are TRASH. I'll be sharing more information about it in the coming days, as soon as I plan and implement my proposal I'll be back to comment how my experience was.
